Low Al Ferrosilicon 75%: Custom FeSi for Steelmaking Excellence

Premium FeSi with ultra-low aluminum (≤0.35%) & carbon — designed to skip secondary refining, cut costs, and produce cleaner steel. SGS-certified delivery to Australia.

⚙️ Australian mill’s challenge

The client produces special steel grades requiring very low aluminum & carbon. Ordinary ferrosilicon (Al 1.3-2.0%) would force an extra refining step — increasing energy cost and cycle time. High-purity (pricey) FeSi blows the budget.

  • Ordinary FeSi → extra ladle refining (time + energy)
  • High-purity grade → expensive, not economical
  • Need a middle path: ≤0.5% Al, ≤0.5% Ca, at competitive price
  • Tight Si range ≥72% to maximise yield

✅ Our custom solution: Low-Al, Low-C FeSi

We produced a special low-aluminum/low-carbon ferrosilicon from selected raw materials, double-refined. SGS results far exceeded specs:

Silicon (Si) 75.3% req ≥72%
Aluminum (Al) 0.32% req ≤0.5%
Calcium (Ca) 0.066% req ≤0.5%
Carbon (C) 0.016% well below limit
Size 10-50mm (98% passing)

⚡ Real impact for Australian steelmaker

FeSi consumption per tonne (due to higher Si)
+9%
clean steel yield (fewer inclusions)
-100%

+18%
faster tapping cycle

🇦🇺 Low-Al FeSi that exceeded Down Under expectations

✅ Si 75.82% (vs 72% min) ✅ Al 0.32% (vs ≤0.5%) ✅ Ca 0.066% (ultra low) ✅ C 0.0016% (meets special steel) ✅ SGS certified
Step 1/6

Low-Al raw material selection

We controlled the smelting process to minimize Al & C pickup. A special refining protocol was applied.

🔍 Client requirement: Al ≤0.5%, C ≤0.1%, Si ≥72%
📊 Internal preliminary: Si 75.51%, Al 0.38%, C 0.022%
Step 2/6

SGS inspector sampling

Before loading, SGS Australia-accredited inspector came to our plant, took composite samples from the refined lot. Sealed samples were sent to SGS lab.

Step 3/6

SGS Certificate issued

SGS lab analysis confirmed: Si = 75.82%, Al = 0.32%, Ca = 0.066%, C = 0.016%. All values far better than required ≤0.5% Al. Certificate number available.

Step 4/6

Custom bulk container loading (no ton-bags)

Instead of conventional 1-ton bags, we loaded the FeSi 10-50mm in bulk directly into 20ft containers – exactly as the Australian customer requested. This custom method saves unpacking time and eliminates bag waste. Heavy-duty wooden bracing was installed to secure the bulk cargo during ocean voyage.

Step 5/6

Sea freight to Australia

Containers shipped from Tianjin to Australia (approx. 18 days). All docs (BL, SGS, packing list) forwarded for smooth customs clearance.

Step 6/6

Australian mill approval & reorder

After using our low-Al FeSi, the Australian client reported no need for extra refining, better steel cleanness, and lower overall cost. They immediately placed a repeat order.

“Bright Alloys’ low-Al FeSi gave us the perfect balance — high Si, low impurities at a fair price. Saved us an entire refining step.” – Metallurgy Manager, Australia

“We were stuck between ordinary high-Al FeSi (costly refining) and expensive high-purity. Bright Alloys delivered the sweet spot: Si 75%, Al 0.31% — we used it directly in our BOF, cut down flux use, and improved steel cleanliness.”

Others can’t produce it? We do. 🏭

Many suppliers stop at ordinary FeSi (Al 1.5%) or ultra-pure (expensive). Bright Alloys masters the mid-range low-aluminum, low-carbon segment. We custom-make ferrosilicon with Al ≤0.5%, Ca ≤0.1%, and high Si, at a price that makes sense for your special steel grades. Trusted by Australian mills.

Low Aluminum Ferrosilicon 75% FAQs

What is low aluminum ferrosilicon? +

Low aluminum ferrosilicon (FeSi) is a specialized ferrosilicon alloy with aluminum content controlled below 0.5%, designed for steel grades requiring minimal impurity introduction. It delivers efficient deoxidation while avoiding the extra refining costs associated with standard high-Al FeSi.

Why is aluminum content critical in ferrosilicon for steelmaking? +

Aluminum can cause harmful inclusions in steel and affect continuous casting. By using custom low-Al FeSi like our 75% grade with Al ≤0.5%, mills avoid secondary refining and improve castability without sacrificing silicon recovery.

What are the typical specifications of low Al FeSi 75%? +

Our ferrosilicon 75% low Al typically contains Si 75-80%, Al ≤0.5%, Ca ≤0.5%, C ≤0.05%, S ≤0.02%, P ≤0.04%, with a size range of 10-50mm. SGS-certified actual analysis from our Australian case showed Si 75.3%, Al 0.31%, Ca 0.07%, demonstrating consistent quality.

How does Bright Alloys ensure FeSi quality for international customers? +

We provide third-party SGS inspection for each shipment and share detailed chemical composition reports. Our quality control process covers raw material selection, smelting parameters, and final chemical analysis to meet strict specifications like those of the Australian steel mill.
