Calcium silicon (CaSi) is a ferroalloy of calcium and silicon, typically supplied as SiCa 60/30 with 55-60% Si and 28-32% Ca. It melts below steelmaking temperature, so it combines a strong deoxidiser and a powerful desulphuriser in one addition.
Bright Alloys produces CaSi lumps, granules and powder, and also fills it into Ø9 mm or Ø13 mm cored wire for controlled calcium treatment in the ladle.
CaSi removes dissolved oxygen and lowers sulphur to low residuals, while its calcium content modifies alumina inclusions into calcium aluminates that stay liquid instead of blocking the tundish nozzle.
Injected as cored wire, CaSi is the standard calcium treatment for linepipe, AHSS and bearing steels, where inclusion shape control determines fatigue life and toughness.
In foundries CaSi acts as a nodulizer and post-inoculant for ductile iron, raising nodule count and suppressing chill in thin sections.
